About

My name’s Amy and I’m a yoga teacher (RYT200) and lifelong student of yoga, originally from the south of England and now based in the beautiful hills of Galloway.

I first became interested in meditation and yoga during a trip to India in 2007. Although the seed was planted at this time, it didn’t fully take root until 2012, when I turned to yoga and meditation to help guide me through challenging times both professionally and personally. I took my RYT200 teacher training in 2015 in Edinburgh with Karen Kirkness. I practised Mysore-style Ashtanga Yoga for some years, which helped me detoxify my body, become stronger and more flexible, sharpen my focus and improve my balance. Not to mention the discipline required to get up at 6am every day for practice (I would love to say this habit has stuck – but now I favour an evening practice when my son has gone to bed)!

I began teaching about a month after I qualified and taught as a full-time occupation in Edinburgh until I moved to Galloway in 2017.

In the months before leaving Edinburgh, I became increasingly interested in Forrest Yoga, Ana Forrest’s system of healing, rooted in Native American tradition. Forrest yoga is usually practised in a heated room and combines long-held postures, core work, ujjayi breathing, bodywork and ceremony for a deeply rejuvenating experience. In June 2018 I undertook a Forrest Yoga Continuing Education for Teachers, held by Forrest Yoga Guardian Sandra Robinson, so that I could incorporate Forrest Yoga principles into my teaching and become a ‘Forrest-Inspired’ teacher.

In February 2019, while 27 weeks pregnant, I undertook the Poppy Perinatal Yoga Level 1 training, held by Forrest Yoga Guardian-in-Training Charlie Speller, so that I could deliver yoga to pregnant and postpartum people. During this training I learned so much and the practices felt great in my body. I had severe PGP (Pelvic Girdle Pain) which soon cleared up as I learned how to stabilise and strengthen my foundation. These practices stood me in good stead for labour, childbirth and the postpartum weeks.

My son, Rowan, was born in May 2019 and I am now living the incredible journey of motherhood. Yoga has helped me enormously throughout pregnancy and to integrate the changes motherhood brings. I am so looking forward to sharing the meditation and movement practices that have helped me, with new and expectant mothers. In addition to pregnancy and post-natal yoga, I continue to teach Forrest-Inspired vinyasa yoga classes in New Galloway (see my Classes page for more details).
